In these quilts, I have used heat-transfer vinyl to print the motifs. I have also used quilting fabrics inherited from my mother, who was a skilled quilter, and the backing is made from bed linens that belonged to my grandmother, my parents, and my siblings. The fabrics remain just as my mother cut them, making this project a posthumous collaboration between my grandmother and mother on one side, and my daughter and me on the other. At its core, the work reflects ideas of womanhood and familial bonds, and how mothers across generations have passed down their craft and knowledge to their daughters.
